ADC – Summer 2006 – Abu Dhabi Life – Blandford or Bani Yas ?

I have 4 months left on my current contract and decision time looms. I expect to be offered an extension which could leave us here for 3 more years. The political situation here in the Gulf seems pretty much stable despite the Israel-Hezbollah conflict although living only 60 miles from Iran focuses attention from time to time. There is also the possibility of another job here in the UAE in the same line of work which may arise in January – we shall see.

After 20 months of trying to come to terms with the Muslim weekend occurring on Thursday and Friday (hence the good old Arabic acronym TGIW) a lot of the Gulf States have made a shift to Friday/Saturday weekends (UAE included) so we are now totally bemused as to what day of the week it is. Actually who cares ?

This Summer has been much more bearable than last, mainly due to Di being mobile but also the humidity has been slightly less. However, we are still revelling in 40+ degrees of heat although our temperature gauge (the sea) tells us that the temperatures will soon drop. By the way have you checked your anti-freeze lately ?
