The nation went football crazy a few weeks ago as it hosted the Gulf Cup http://www.gulfnews.com/indepth/gulfcup2007/index.html . A national hero was born as striker Esmail Mattar hit the only goal of the final to give the brave Emirati boys a dogged victory over neighbours and favourites Oman (the equivalent of Northern Ireland turning England over at Windsor Park) http://www.englandfanzine.co.uk/teams/all_reports.asp?ID=832 – BUGGER !!!

The nationals took advantage of the revelry to practice their stunt driving skills in salutation of their heroes along any piece of tarmac they happened to be on at the time. The result of which is a centimetric “donut” coating of Bridgestone, Pirelli and Goodyear rubber along the capital’s thoroughfares which was emulated only days later by the World’s top F1 racing drivers (see Formula 1).
