ADC - Spring 2007 - Dubai Report
Another of Dubai’s great ventures is a Metro link http://vgn.dm.gov.ae/DMEGOV/dm-mp-metro . With Sharjah to the North, Jebel Ali to the South, and the Arabian Gulf directly West, Greater Dubai is long rather than broad or round. There are currently four main N-S routes that pass through Dubai the most notorious of which is the Shaikh Zayed Road which twice a day becomes a six-lane car park that outdoes the M25.
The problem will hopefully be alleviated (though almost certainly not resolved) by the building of the new Metro, the appearance of which goes largely unnoticed because it is just one small part of the largest building site on the planet (Olympic Beijing included).
